I really enjoy discussing religion with people. Over the last year I decided that I was truly agnostic. It’s not that I don’t believe in anything, it’s that I have no idea what to believe. Having been raised Catholic I just believed everyone else was wrong and we were the only ones going to heaven. Sort of like “Left Behind” but just the Catholics disappear.
As I got older I visited different services; Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, and it still didn’t seem to click for me. I thought, “If there is a god, then as long as I am a good person, help others and stay as positive as possible, I will be on my way to whatever utopia awaits.” Of course, on the other hand, if there is no heaven then the freedom of no religion lets me live my life to the fullest since this may be my only chance!
I want my children to live as though this is the only life we have. I see so many people worrying about being Christian enough, Jewish enough, Muslim enough, religious enough…..am I following the bible? Am I doing what it takes to go to Heaven? If God exists, do you really think he/she would want us to waste our lives worrying about dying? Doesn’t really make sense to me.
I would love to know what brings people to believe in the Bible and its teachings. I am also open to other religious beliefs and explanations about them. I do not know enough about other religions but I am interested in what makes people believe the things they do.
