Would this upset anyone?
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, standing together, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Do people know that “under god” was added later?
Here is the original by baptist minister Francis Bellamy in October 1892 for a children’s magazine. It was used to honor the flag at the 400th anniversary of Columbus coming to the Americas.
“I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
In 1923, it looked like this:
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
I will always stand, face the flag, put my right hand over my heart and recite the pledge of allegiance. I will even say “under god” because I do not want to be offensive to those that have faith. However, the Pledge of Allegiance to me is a way to show respect to my country and appreciate how fortunate I am to live in the United States of America.
It wasn’t until 1954, that “under god” was added it Why? Isn’t the whole world “under god” for those who believe in a higher power? Once again, this leaves me totally confused.

I agree. I believe the founding fathers wanted a separation of church and state but there aren’t many politicians that aren’t religious. That, kind of makes everything tip toward religion.

It’s something that I wish would be mentioned more often. Seems to have been overlooked. There are 19% of Americans that identify with Libertarians according to a 2015 Reuters poll. If we assume there are actually 20% out of 315 million people in the US, then SIXTY THREE MILLION PEOPLE are Libertarian. I am one of those people and I want to be heard! Thanks for the reply! 🙂
